What If?

In the second edition of Scoot With Heart, Scoot invites everyone to pause and reflect on a simple yet profound question: What if?

What if we had reached out? What if we made time? What if we chose to reconnect?

Many of us see “What Ifs” as regrets. But when we shift our perspective and embrace these moments as opportunities for growth, it encourages us to make different choices today to shape a better future. Sometimes, it’s the smallest choices that lead to the biggest connections that can change everything.

This year, we are choosing to spotlight the relationships we sometimes let fade — childhood friends who felt like family, family members we meant to call, colleagues who were with us through important seasons, and connections that shaped us in ways we may have forgotten.

Even though drifting away from people we were once close to could be just a natural part of life, it doesn’t always need to be that way — and sometimes, all it takes is asking “what if”.

Vanessa’s story – A Moment Years in the Making

Captain Vanessa Khaw has spent years in the skies, carrying with her the pride of flying and the quiet ache of missing moments at home. As a pilot and a mother of two young daughters, she treasures every story they tell and every memory they share, even if her schedules often mean catching those moments in between flights.

But during a special Scoot With Heart interview at the airport, Vanessa was met with a surprise she never expected. After she spoke about motherhood and her hopes for her girls, she had the chance to secretly listen to her family’s heartfelt messages about what she means to them.

The reunion that followed was filled with joy and warmth of being seen and loved. As a final surprise, Scoot fulfilled a long-held dream, arranging a flight where Vanessa piloted the plane with her entire family onboard for the very first time after 15 years.

Her story is a powerful reminder that even in a life spent soaring across distances, the most meaningful journeys are the ones that bring us closer to the people we hold dear.

Asmidar’s story – Rekindling a Bond Rooted in Home

For Asmidar Hamedon, Pulau Ubin is more than an island. It is the core of her childhood. Growing up in the kampongs of the 1970s, she shared her days with her cousin, Ismali: playing, harvesting fruit, and dreaming of an aviation career together as planes passed overhead. Their bond felt unbreakable, shaped by simplicity and shared wonder.

When adulthood arrived, life took them in different directions with responsibilities and distance, and the closeness faded. During the Scoot With Heart interview, Asmidar reflected on the “good old days,” unaware that Ismali was listening in from another room. Hearing her words stirred old memories, and moments later, he stepped forward to surprise her. Their reunion was emotional, warm, and instantly familiar.

Scoot later arranged for them to return to Pulau Ubin for a day, retracing steps through familiar places that shaped their childhood. Their story is a reminder that even when years pass and routines take over, the connections that shaped us never truly fade. Sometimes, all it takes is a single thought of "What If" and action to bring them back to life.
