🏋️ HYROX race format & workout stations explained

HYROX is a global fitness race that mixes running with functional workout stations. Basically, your gym routine meets race day. While it’s definitely not a walk in the park, there are different race categories, from solo to doubles and relays, so you can choose your level of chaos.

OPEN
•  Singles: Take on the race yourself and push yourself to the limit
•  Doubles: Share the race with a friend, split the work and cross the finish line together
•  Relay: Four racers, one elevated race experience where teamwork defines the outcome

PRO
•  Pro & Pro Doubles: Heavier, faster, tougher, for those ready to take HYROX to the next level

Whether you race in your home city or fly internationally, every HYROX competition delivers the same core challenge:

Note: Doubles & Relay divisions use Open weights. Mixed Doubles uses Men’s Open weights for both athletes (except wall ball targets). Wall ball reps may vary by event.

🏋️ Why travel for a HYROX race?

•  A different crowd, a bigger atmosphere: Racing with athletes from dozens of countries creates a sense of scale that elevates the entire experience. 🎉

•  Same race, new challenge: Different arena layouts, crowd noise, climate, and time zones all test your adaptability. It’s the same HYROX, but it demands more from you as an athlete. 💪

•  Turn race weekend into a real trip: Imagine racing in the morning, then spending the next few days exploring cafés, historic streets, beaches, or nightlife. For many athletes, it’s the perfect blend of competition and recovery travel. 🧳

While the format stays the same, racing in a new environment changes everything. Here are some tips for your next HYROX race.

Always check the venue map beforehand and get familiarised with the layout and station transitions 🗺️
Arrive 2-2.5 hours before the race time, especially if you haven’t checked in and collected your wristband and timing chip ⏰
Timing chip must be worn on the ankle at all times, racing without it will result in no recorded time ⏱️
Bag drop is available 45-60 minutes before your race 🎒
Allow sufficient time for warm up and enter the start tunnel 10 minutes before your start time for the briefing 🏃‍➡️
Do note that not all venues allow food and drinks to be brought in, check the regulations for your venue before race day 🥤
